He Lived To Be Older Than 100!

Kirk Douglas

Kirk Douglas was born Issur Danielvitch on December 9, 1916. He made a good choice changing his name to Kirk Douglas. I can not imagine going to see Spartacus starring Issur Danielvitch. December 9, 2016 was his 100th birthday. He died on Feb. 20, 2020.

He lived a charmed life looking from the outside in. It probably is different than what we can imagine but I am sure his life was exciting. He was the star and he lived the life of a star. He was one the last of the “great ones.”

Kirk Douglas acted for over 60 years. We remember him well in Spartacus, Paths of Glory, Lonely Are the Brave, Lust for Life, The Bad and The Beautiful, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Saturn 3, to name just a few. According to all of his co-actors, he was an amazing actor as well as a great person and friend.

Throughout the years, Kirk Douglas and his wife donated large sums of money to worthwhile causes. They donated most of their net worth of approximately 61 million dollars at their death to the Douglas Foundation, “one of the entertainment industry’s largest and oldest private philanthropic institutions”. Ms. Douglas died a little over a year after her husband died.

The key to a long life is to choose parents who have lived a long life. Kirk Douglas chose his parents well. It is only good when the means are available to you to be well taken care. I hope we are all that lucky.
